Material Grade: HCr II, HCr III

Hot Strip, Plate & Universal Mill Centrifugal High Chrome Cast Iron Rolls (HCr Rolls)

Engineered for exceptional wear resistance in severe rolling environments. The HCr series utilizes a highly alloyed matrix with Chromium levels up to 22.00%, forming a dense network of hard M7C3 carbides. This centrifugal composite structure delivers high hot-hardness and stable performance for hot strip, plate, and universal section mills.

Key Mill Applications (Recommended Stands)

Hot Strip & Plate Mills

Engineered for work rolls in hot strip mills and medium-to-heavy plate mills . High-chromium carbides effectively resist thermal fatigue, oxidation, and severe surface wear under continuous hot rolling.

Universal Mill Rings & Heavy Section Mills

Tailored for universal mill rings and section mill stands. The centrifugal casting process ensures an excellent combination of core toughness and shell wear resistance, perfectly securing pass profile precision for structural steel.

Skin Pass Mills & Vertical Edging Rolls

Designed for temper/skin pass mills and vertical edging stands. Delivers superior anti-spalling performance to maintain an impeccable roll surface finish, while standing up to intense friction on edging roll pass flanks.

Chemical Composition & Physical Properties

DURON’s High Chrome Cast Iron Rolls (HCr Series) are centrifugally cast to establish a stable metallurgical bond. The structural design features a dense matrix populated with eutectic M7C3 alloy carbides, providing high wear resistance and stable resistance to surface oxidation. We monitor the exact alloying parameters, including controlled additions of Vanadium (V), to support consistent shell depth and thermal stability. The chemical compositions and metallurgical specifications for these high chrome cast iron rolls are detailed below:

Code (代码) C Si Mn Cr Ni Mo V Hardness (硬度 HSD) Tensile (抗拉 N/mm²)
HCr II 2.90-3.30 0.30-1.00 0.50-1.20 15.01-20.00 0.70-2.90 0.70-2.90 0.00-0.60 65-80 ≥ 350
HCr III 2.90-3.30 0.30-1.00 0.50-1.20 18.01-22.00 0.70-1.70 1.51-3.00 0.00-0.60 75-90

Metallurgical Excellence

Why Choose DURON Centrifugal High Chrome Cast Iron Rolls?

  • High-Density Carbide Formation : With Chromium levels reaching up to 22%, the microstructure forms hard, discrete M7C3 eutectic carbides. This significantly enhances the high chrome cast iron roll’s ability to withstand severe abrasive wear in demanding applications.

  • Secondary Hardening Effect : The strategic addition of Molybdenum and Vanadium promotes secondary hardening during heat treatment, ensuring the roll shell maintains an operating hardness of up to 90 HSD even under high thermal loads.

  • Centrifugal Composite Integrity : Manufactured via a centrifugal casting process, the highly alloyed wear shell is metallurgically bonded to a tough core (Tensile Strength ≥ 350 N/mm²), providing a balanced resistance to both surface spalling and core fatigue.

  • Multi-Stand Material Integration: To manage campaign life across the rolling train, mill operators frequently follow our HCr roughing or early finishing stands with our specialized Indefinite Chilled Rolls or stable-performance Acicular Nodular Iron Rolls in the downstream finishing stands.

Manufacturing Control & Inspection

100% Non-Destructive Testing

Every roll undergoes rigorous Ultrasonic Testing (UT) at the working layer and bonding zone to eliminate internal voids and ensure structural integrity under heavy loads.

Precision CNC Machining

Roll necks and barrel profiles are machined using heavy-duty CNC equipment, strictly adhering to your drawing's dimensional and runout tolerances for perfect bearing fitment.

Metallurgical Verification

Chemical compositions are analyzed via spectrometer pre-pouring, and multi-point hardness mapping is conducted post-heat treatment to guarantee the specified hardness gradient.

Quality Traceability

All dispatched rolls are accompanied by a comprehensive inspection certificate, documenting chemical composition, hardness distribution, and UT reports.
